Wanted: grill for Edison SI-19

Post by JohnM »

Does anyone have a spare grill for an Edison SI-19 (Sheraton Inlay) Diamond Disc Phonograph? Tall order, I know!

Thanks!

John

John,

I might have one in my basement next to that stack of original glass horns. I'll check.

Hey, I found the correct early reproducer for 'Old No. 2' (with a little help from Ron Dethlefson), so I DO believe in miracles! I thought I'd go to my grave before I ever found that one! It only took 5 years!

Miracles do indeed happen. The only known example of a Devineau Biophone was at Union one year (not for sale, but to be photographed for one of our books). While we were lighting it and shooting it, someone remarked what a shame it was that the original sound box was missing. Don Gfell left the little group, walked over to his booth, and returned with an original Devineau Biophone sound box! I'm not aware of another existing sound box for a Biophone - - what are the chances?

That is truly an amazing story! A couple of years ago, I brought a Victor V to Union for trading purposes. It had a turntable that rode very low and just barely contacted the bullet brake. I figured it must be an earlier turntable. Paul Baker was telling me he had picked up a beautiful Victor D with a hold-down nut and a serial number like 43 or something. He wanted a spearpoint horn and it was missing it's turntable. He asked me if I had anything for sale and I told him I had a V with a spearpoint in the car, but I brought it to trade (I was looking for a Pooley flat-top). As we walked outside, I could barely contain myself because of the turntable on my V. The instant -- I mean the instant -- I opened the trunk, Paul exclaimed, "Hey! That's the turntable I need!" (He's good). We cut a deal. Paul got his horn and turntable. I came home without a VTLA, though (again!)
