I am offering for sale a very nice 1911 mahogany L-Door Victrola phonograph. See pictures for details. Has the big 3 spring motor, plays 5 sides of a 10" 78 rpm record before rewinding becomes necessary. I rebuilt the reproducer, sounds great!
The pictures are the rest of the description. Asking $400.
You can arrange for pick up in Castle Rock, WA (I-5 Exit 49) or I can deliver along I-5 corridor from Seattle to Albany for gas money, 20c per mile both ways.
Might even be able to talk Jerry B. into delivering to Union or other phonograph show...
If you are interested, let me know and we can figure something out.
Thanks! Cliff

Cliff:
One nice VV-XVI L-Door at a very good price. That should sell quick! Anyone should consider an L Door Model. I have one and enjoy every minute of it.

Re: FOR SALE: Beautiful Mahogany 1911 Victrola L-Door $400
A closer look at this machine shows the motor board may not be original to this cabinet. It is a bit darker mahogany and it has the bullet brake, which was discontinued on the VV-XVI model in 1909 according to Baumbach. This is definitely a 1911 machine and should have the later friction type brake. Also has the pressed steel floating turntable instead of the cast iron one.
Conclusion, this is a 1911 type C with a 1909 type B motorboard.

According to the Victor-Victrola site, the bullet brake was replaced by the tab brake in 1912.CDBPDX wrote:A closer look at this machine shows the motor board may not be original to this cabinet. My L-door which has parts original to a machine in the 32000 series has the bullet brake. I believe they used all the old brakes up before the tab brake came into general use.

With the L-Doors and other early Victor machines, they were more transitional and used varying parts, I think they actually would
Find bullet brakes and early round speed dials and other parts and throw them on machines to use up old inventory. It does not
surprise me anymore to find varying parts on early models. I usually look for screw holes ext to see if someone moved or swapped out parts.

According to the Victor-Victrola site, my walnut 4-40 doesn’t exist, as it says they were only produced in mahogany. It’s a fantastic website but it’s often a general guide. I’m not sure if they transitioned to the tab brake early or not, but my 1911 IX has a bullet brake.
Really nice machine.
