Help with Saal DD motor

I'm working on a two spring Saal DD motor from my Silvertone table top phonograph. Does anyone know if the springs go in the opposite direction? I forgot to make a note of it when removing them.

There's a video on youtube (below) showing spring replacement for a two spring Saal EE motor, and they appear to go in the same direction.

Also, the springs have pear shaped openings which are supposed to lock onto the arbor shaft knobs, but I have difficulty getting them into place - is there an 'easy' way to do this?
