I searched on line for J Spaulding & Sons and found an interesting story about the company. They made their fiber from hemp and bragged about it being stronger than steel. Mounded shoe parts were one of their specialties. One division made the phonograph horns.

As said before, that is a really nice machine, but what makes it even better is the family connection... Make sure it stays in your family and is appreciated...

That is true! I remember being about 10 years old and visiting my mom's uncle. He was cleaning out the garage with all the "family" antiques. I remember there was a disc horn machine which what I believe now to be an aftermarket horn with painted white flowers. Oh how I wanted that machine but it went to United House Wrecking in Stamford Connecticut. They had a big antique center. I think he got $100 for it. That must have been about 1971. About 6 years later I remember buying a VV 9-15 for $35. I still have that one. I often wonder where that machine is today. My grandfather was born in 1906 and had both older and younger siblings. My guess is that they didn't buy it new but I really don't know for sure.
