Victorla 4-3 Consolette mfg date March 17, 1926

I have a Consolette that won't wind when cranked. It looks like the "V" crimp on the spring end is not engaging the center barrel of the motor. Anyone have a spring and motor that I could use? Can the spring be crimped tighter on the barrel? I don't wanna pay $150 for a new spring when this one looks so good and is wound tightly until the center and then is seems to lose its strength.
