A fantastic Original book - The Phono-Bretto. Almost 415 pages packed full of period song lyrics. An outstanding and well executed book.

Inside the cover of this book ee find the following:

Many, many, many of these songs are ones from the cylinders we all own!!! Now we can actually figure out what they were saying with this little book!

The PHONO-BRETTO is exactly what it appears to be, a book that documents the words of over 700 songs recorded on phonograph records. It was published in 1919 by the PHONO-BRETTO COMPANY, INC. of New York City, N.Y. The forward section provides a little more color as to why this book was published:

• “The PHONO-BRETTO (Phonographic-Liberetto) is intended to render the same service to Phonograph-Owners as the Opera-Libretto renders to Opera-Goers; it’s object being to act as an interpreter of the songs, operatic selections, addresses, recitations, etc., which have been reproducer on phonograph records of the various makers.”
