I recently disassembled the electric motor on one of my Credenzas (my first ever attempt for an electric) and found the process to be much easier than I ever thought. The insulation on the wires were fine, but brittle. If you are careful, the coils can be removed without bending any of the wires or breaking the brittle insulation off of them. After a good cleaning, it all went back together with no problems and runs quiet. I'm sure there will be a point in time that the wiring should be replaced...but I do feel it is as safe for now. What the hey, my old house gives it juice through knob and tube wires.
