And thank you, Fran, for unearthing the story of William Gillett; a name many of us have encountered (but only as "W. Gillett") for many many years, but about whom we knew nothing. One of the more mysterious tinfoil phonograph designers...until now!

There was another very famous William Gillette, anyone know who he was and what he is famous for?

Not to be pedantic, but there's no "e" at the end of this Gillett. :)

I believe William Gillette was the first actor to portray Sherlock Holmes on film!
