Interesting. Speaking of literature and going slightly off topic. I have been buying a lot of literature regarding the hobby. I’ve bought all the classics : “From Tinfoil To Stereo” (1976 version) “The Compleat Talking Machine” and of course “The Fabulous Phonograph” (both the 1965 and 1977 versions were in the same sale.) And inside both versions an autograph by the writer! Dated 1971 and 1977!phonogfp wrote:The full title of Martin's outstanding article is Spotter's Guide to the Edison Standard Phonograph. A word or caution about From Tinfoil to Stereo... It's full of mistakes and very heavy pro-Edison bias. I honestly wouldn't recommend reading it until you've read more accurate histories. It's difficult to UN-LEARN things you've read early on. Ask me how I know this...!

Alright, I’ll make sure to take it with the same grain of salt as an eBay listing saying an item is “professionally packed”phonogfp wrote:A word or caution about From Tinfoil to Stereo... For some reason I remembered it as a standalone site, and forgot it was JUST the Standard.
I'll go stand in the corner now.

Ok. Next question: Are these reproduction reproducers any good? Or should I just hold out for an original?phonogfp wrote:Originals - - hardy ever.AmberolaAndy wrote:How often do these nice bases show up for sale?

My experience with Justin's products that they are top quality. I have not purchased a reproduction Graphophone reproducer from him, but I wouldn't hesitate.AmberolaAndy wrote: Ok. Next question: Are these reproduction reproducers any good? Or should I just hold out for an original?

Your 1st-series Q originally had a reproducer specially-designed for it. However, many, many original owners upgraded to a D1 or D-2B (the type Justin offers) for the improved fidelity they offer. (Graphophones offered large-diameter reproducers many years before Edison did.)

Re: My first Graphophone! And serial number question.
Ok folks....
THE. WAIT. IS. OVER.
It arrived securely in one piece! WOO HOO! Nothing bent or anything!
I’m not going to do anything with it until tomorrow when the machine isn’t freezing cold.
And yes, I was correct about the serial number being 600152! So this was made in 1901 right?
I just need to clean it up! Is white vinegar ok?
