Electrola VE-130 original price?

I cant seem find any info on the electrola VE 130. Does anyone have any scans of its paperwork/advertisements, or know what its origional price was? How many were made?

You're RELENTLESS about hunting phonographs! I don't know where you found a 130 to look at but that's cool. I've often thought it would be nice to have a victrola with electric motors and light.

Thank you. I haven't seen many electric versions of usually non electric models, but I find 130's to be quite beautiful and an electric model seems like the perfect fit. I would be very paranoid of bumping into or somehow scratching a valuable floor model.

I am very sorry for overposting about different models and such, but I have to urge to ask every time I see something different, sometimes not that I am necessarily interested in acquiring it, but that it is something I feel I need to ask about.

Buying a good floor model Vic is not a purchase easily regretted. Your only difficulty will come in trying to sell the old thing.

A Victrola is the phonograph of the listener, not the wheeler and dealer. The best ones to "flip" are cheap portables and high-end small phonographs.

That is part of my dilemma. I dont know if it is something I would want to keep, and I have never gotten a phonograph that is in no need of repair or touch up. I especially dont like to resell things that I did not do anything to improve, it gives be the feeling that I cheated in some way. This machine especially, because I know that there are many that sound better, so it is just a glamour piece to me, other than the convenience of an electric motor.

Is this a hypothetical machine or a purchase being considered? If actual, what is the wood? I have a spring driven, Oak 130 and I enjoy listening to it almost as much as I like to look at it. The 130 and XVII were the pinacle of that era. I bought mine regardless of resale value. I bought it because it was a thing of beauty that I wanted to be able to see and play whenever I wanted. We all have our reasons for purchasing and collecting, so value is how you perceive it. Rarity and resale are low on my list. How I feel about a machine is at the top. An Edison M class, other than having some cool looking mechanical features doesn’t do much for me. Fine woodwork, fine wood, tasteful and imaginative design along with good tone and playability, these are the things that move me. I also like nostalgia, so the little trademark era machines, with their quirky charm have a lot of appeal to me too.

Yep. For whatever reason, identifying the wood can be difficult for me sometime. As you can see, it is in great condition, and it has a pretty late serial number.

I only re-invest into phonographs, so it is kind of necessary to re-sell things, and this would take up most of my budget.

That’s Mahogany. If that finish is original, then that is one that would be a shame to pass up. Maybe you could pass the lead onto a friend or the forum if you are passing. I’m not asking for myself. I already have a Mahogany VV- XVII and an Oak VV-130.

You may want to get a second opinion on the actual condition of this phonograph before purchase.

To my eyes, it appears to have been refinished in polyurethane.
Some of the gold plated parts have been over polished down to the base metal.
The turntable felt should be green.

I believe that this is an early VV-130, because the serial #'s usually started at 500.

If you are purchasing this machine for your own enjoyment and the price is right, I would say "go for it".
If you are purchasing this machine with the hopes of making a profit, I would pass.

I would recommend spending a small amount and buy Look For The Dog and the Victor Data book by Bob Baumbach. These two books will provide you with a lot of info at little cost.

BTW, I concur with Bob (Zwebie)....the machine has been heavily restored and at $1500...for sale for awhile.
