Edison Phonograph Information on Model

Post by HINES1942 »

Hi

Here is a second machine which appears to play much larger cylinders, I also have a horn that fits it. All the mechanism appears present but there is no drive belt to check if its working, can I source this on the internet?. The lid has some damage I think from the arm inside which swings freely and may have hit the lid of the box. Any information as to model would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Martin

Holy Crap .... You have an Edison Concert. Many of us would dream to have one.

That's the first model of the Edison Concert Phonograph. Obviously, it plays 5" cylinders. You seem to have some nice phonographs in your attic!

Belting material can be purchased from any of these suppliers:

Please be sure that you (and anyone else) NEVER try to pick any of these machines up by the handle on the lid. ALWAYS pick them up from under the bottom of the base cabinet, two handed.

The 120 year old wood should not be expected to bear the load, and often doesn’t, with tragic results to the machine and/or your foot!

You have a couple of quite-valuable machines there, and presuming that our members are already furtively and fervidly trying to pry them loose from you, keeping them in nice shape will be best for everyone. Where are you located?

Fantastic machine, congratulations! Is it common for a Concert to have two patent plates (as visible on the pictures) and do they differ in content?

Hi

Yes the two patent plates do seem to differ with one having later dates on it, I have also included an image of the number on the side of the mechanism.
