Victor III Phonograph

Post by pellicano1 »

Hope you guys dont mind me sharing this story! Im still on cloud nine!!
So I have been searching around for an external horn phonograph. Particularly a Vic III. Well I must've driven by this corner antique shop a hundred times but never stopped in. Last weekend I decided to take a peek. Asked the clerk if they had any phonographs, the ones with the large horns. They said we have one but no horn. Immediately I was thinking a VV-IV. As I turned the corner my heart started to race as I see a VIC III without a horn and dusty. I asked how much and when I got my answer I had to hold it together or he might think twice!! He told me $125. I couldnt get my wallet out fast enough!! When I got it home I checked the motor and cleaned it up. Cleaned the case. Replaced the reproducer gaskets. WOW. Beautiful! Also had a needle cup with around 20 gold tungs-tone needles that look to be NOS (wont be using them on here). Also has the early Exhibition reproducer with the levered needle chuck. I was able to buy a horn off a friend for $150 and get an elbow on loan from another friend. The crank is coming in tomorrow! I have a posting on here looking for an elbow. No luck yet!

I present my 1907? VIC III.
Thanks for reading everyone!

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

Holly cow Steve, did you score! I always ask if they have phonographs and they usually point me toward their little beat up VV-IV or VI and I usually leave with that! lol

Congrats, keep us posted and I will be checking your youtube channel to hear her sing again.

Nobody minds a good bargain brag--especially when you got a nice Victor III! It's absolutely gorgeous and if you can get it all the way you want it, that will be wonderful!

I love that morning-glory horn on there. I used to have one but it cost me a lot more than what you paid. Right now I'm using a giant witches'-hat horn but it doesn't have the look of the morning-glory.

That motor is clean enough to eat off of and even the finish isn't too bad! What's the serial on it?

The Exhibition with a spring loaded needle chuck was worth your $125. Really! Nice find!

Nice one, Steve! I've been looking for a III for eons, and every last one I find seems to have fallen victim to serious crack pipe pricing.
