The art community is a natural group to expose these machines to the general public.

I'm surprised no one noticed--it's actually a tiny pencil sharpener!

We're still waiting for Wyatt to post a thread on how he converted one to play actual records...

Yup! I found that to be an easy way to photograph it to close to the perspective needed. It's all a fantasy.

I entirely agree with the fact that we need to pull gramophone collecting out of the shadows and give it some recognition from the public; this way, it'll be much easier to organise events (both expositions and sale/swap events), and in some countries, it's possible for a collector or an association to receive the "works for the public good" label, which helps A LOT for pretty much everything.
Plus, it's not like it's difficult to find places to display our stuff: play music at fairs, take part in historical reenacting events...

I was back again, this time for their Holiday Bazaar. I had a few good conversations this evening, even though the turn-out was lower that other receptions. For the first time I took my Edison Standard and played 40 jazzy Blue Amberols. This media certainly fits in with their non-profit business model... WomanKraft Art Center was founded in 1974 to claim, validate, and empower women artists and other under represented groups. We're part of the under represented groups!

Looks nice and funny... I'm always planning to promote something gramophonic here around me, too. I believe it's time to leave enjoying gramophone music alone, and try to make others enjoy it. I should organize gramophone concerts or something alike.... A communal event its a very good occasion to start...

I agree that our hobby is one which is best shared, and I am fortunate to have several collector friends living locally.

As well as our CLPGS West of England Group meetings in Devon and Somerset, which I chair, we locals meet informally every month to play records, drink tea (this being England) and solve the problems of the world. To make it really interesting we vie with each other to bring the most unusual records, so there is always something which some of us have never heard before.

Next week our monthly session will be devoted to Christmas records, probably everything from Silent Night to Spike Jones. Can't wait!
