Nickel Orthophonic Brass Reproducer value

Post by maginter »

Hi All -

Just looking for some information. Does anyone have a ball park or actual value of what a Nickel Orthophonic Brass Reproducer would sell for or cost?

TIA,

Mark

I did and these are Gold, not Nickel. I know that the Nickel one typically are less, but I have no idea how much. That is why the question.

There was one listed for sale on this site in 2017. The asking price at the time was $279.00 --

-- I don't know if it eventually sold for that or more, but around $300-$400 seems to be the going rate for the gold plated version, and from what I've seen over the years, the nickel plated ones are priced in the same ballpark.

I agree that Ebay is an excellent tool for checking an item's sold price, to determine trends, etc., but as Phonogal noted, the ones on ebay right now are all pot metal nickel plated Orthophonic sound boxes, (though many look to be in relatively good to excellent condition!)

For those new to the hobby, or unfamiliar with the various styles of reproducers, the easiest way to tell them apart at a glance is that the pot metal version has nine openings in the front plate, while the solid brass version has seven.

Also, the pot metal version's needle bar fulcrum's casing is molded or cast as part of the front plate, while on the brass version, it's attached.
