Nice Item for sale

Post by gramophone78 »

I had a chance to buy one of these in Mexico once.It was in mint shape and an old lady had it.She was a Phono/Radio collector herself.I did buy a Vic 6 with #24 brass horn and a Vic 0 a long with a few other things. If it was a little closer,I would have bought this Apollo machine too.The lady there only wanted 450.00.This one is a lot more but, nice.

Very nice! The makers offered a limited selection of rolls intended to be played with selected Victor records. I've never heard of anyone finding a combination, let alone synchronizing them.

I just saw the episode of Clean House this weekend where this same exact phono-player piano combination was out at the yardsale for the asking price of $500.00 and it DID NOT SELL! I watched as they loaded it onto the charity truck at the end.....oh the humanity!

You know,if it was close to home I would have been all over it.The one that the lady had was in a Arts & Crafts style case.I remember how nice it was and then she started pulling out all these Edison's & Victors so I was FULL for the flight home. This was 12 years ago.I ran into her two years ago.She was doing good for 101 years of age.I did find out that she had sold everything to a man in Mexico City many years ago now. So,I would think that's where it is now.Funny how this lady was a big collector in the early days. She had some cool radios but,I know very little about them. The other thing I remember about her......she came out of a room with a big box and told me they were cylinder records.Well, they were.In fact they were all Edison & Columbia Concert cylinders all with box and lid. However, every single one was in pieces.
Funny the things you remember that you should try to forget :).
