Needles
I am new to the hobby but quickly getting hooked, I recently purchased a Phonola Model S 60, kinda beat up but cool just the same I will post a picture of it on here, this is my second portable machine and I intend to take 1 of them with me when I display my Model A Ford Sedan at car shows. Here is my question about the model S 60, I found some different looking needles inside the player, were these just made for this player or are they a specific type? Regular needles work with this machine maybe these were just proprietary and sold by Phonola? I will post a picture of the needles and the player. I have a second question, somewhere down the road I may want to purchase a wax Cylinder player, it would have to be reasonably priced and cool, a hard combo. to find I am sure, I have purchased a book on players and their repairs so I have some idea of what I would want, maybe someone on here could post their opinions on what to buy and where to look for it. Any help given here would be appreciated.

Re: Needles
The red one is a Columbia "Chromium" needle, which were supposed to last for 60 sides, but in actual fact didn't last more than five, and probably damaged your records in the process, and the other four are Laubscher "Pick-up Superior" which when new were superb needles, but only to be used once. All of them could be used in any machine, but the ones you have are probably used, so to avoid damaging your records, should be discarded.

Re: Needles
I agree with what Phono48. I would discard them to avoid record damage.
Since you want to bring your portable to show off with your Model A. Your collection cannot be complete without a copy of, "Henry's Made a Lady Out of Lizzie".

Re: Needles
Thank you both for taking the time to reply to my questions, I will just save these needles for conversation pieces, I never intended to use them although I only have a few records, none are "collectible" just stuff I enjoy and use to demo the machines to friends. Thank you for the heads up on "Henry made a lady out of Lizzy" I do have it copied to my MP3 player which will be hidden in one of the portables.
