Victrola Spindle Shaft Silly Question

Post by Dave D »

Why do these have the turntable support pin on only one side and not on both? Is it an engineering thing? Of. is every single one that I find just broken?

I would suppose it's so that if the location of the pin is slightly off center, the turntable will still mate up with it well. Just a guess.

It may be because they use a straight shaft. If the pin went all the way through, the platter would riock slightly, (twice per rotation). Having the pin on one side would make it stable. Others used shallow tapers which require close tolerance machining, but are more accurate.
