I have a few question about the VV 7-11
How does it sound? Obviously compared to an Edison C-4, the sound is acoustic, so how does it sound compared to the rest of the orthophonics?
Does anyone have advice on a replacement speaker?
How much do they weigh? Could one be moved by just 2 people?
How much does one in good condition go for?
Thanks
Martin

Re: VV 7-11 questions.
In terms of sound quality, based on what I've listened to, the VV-7-11 is about on par with a Consolette. There's no real bass, but it has a strong mid-range and a pretty good upper register.
The 7-11 uses the same "guts" found in the VV-2-55 portable but the mouth of the horn is directed at a curved back plate that reflects the sound forward through the player's chamber.
There are hundreds of videos posted on youtube showing the 7-11 in action, especially on this page -- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcsf-A ... l8KcJAa93g Unfortunately, he seems to have a preference for late acoustic off brand records, though there are a few electrics that might give you a clue, such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUQkA1FlxFY

Re: VV 7-11 questions.
Many VV 7-11's were converted back in the day for electronic reproduction. It was an easy modification, add a pickup and a volume control and radio/record switch. Is the one you are looking at a stock machine? Personally I wouldn't make room for a VV 7-11. And only a VE 7-26A with a factor installed dynamic speaker.

Well, if you're wondering about the machine in question, I think you're judgement is better than mine. The seller says the the radio doesnt pick up AM, but a buddy of mine can fix that for meSkihawx wrote:Many VV 7-11's were converted back in the day for electronic reproduction. Re: VV 7-11 questions.
The VE 7-26A phonographs skihawx mentioned above, have serial numbers that start at 12000.
Both the 7-11 and the 7-26 have a Radiola 16 and amp that slides out like a drawer, which once removed makes moving them around much easier. The 7-11 lighter than the 7-26.

I think it's awesome & would put it in the house in a New York minute for $200.

Re: VV 7-11 questions.
Same here. I'm strictly a phono guy -- not into tube radios. I wouldn't waste the floor space for a machine that large that is essentially just a VV 2-55 portable with a radio (that I wouldn't use) in a big box.Skihawx wrote:Personally I wouldn't make room for a VV 7-11.

I've seen several of these over the years at shows. They didn't generate much collector interest as I recall.
