On April 10, 1905, Deutsche Grammophon staged a large concert before a selected audience in Berlin, involving five professional singers and six Triplophones - performing alternately.
Pictured is Gertrud Runge, leading soprano, performing the great aria "I am Titania" from Mignon with piano accompaniment. For comparison, the aria was subsequently repeated through a Triplophon. The press reported that the fullness and fidelity of tone reached the original performance.
As a technical highlight, four Triplophones standing in a row upstage (synchronized, using electric powered drive) reproduced orchestral recordings through 12 funnels.
At the finale, Oskar Messter showed his Biophon (synchronized kinematograph and gramophone) on a screen visible in the background.

I actually get to Varkhaus from time to time for my work. When I was there about a year ago somebody mentioned this museum. Next time I'll make time to check it out! Thanks!USlakeside wrote:From a museum in Finland, I emailed them about my Mammut and saw these pics on their website. http://www.mekaanisenmusiikinmuseo.fi/
What a show that must have been. It must have been perceived as an amazing demonstration of advanced technology!Starkton wrote:On April 10, 1905, Deutsche Grammophon staged a large concert before a selected audience in Berlin, involving five professional singers and six Triplophones - performing alternately.

Obviously this very nice museum emerged from a private collection. Look what I found hanging on the wall behind the impressing coin-in-the-slot gramophone. They seem to know their stuff:Valecnik wrote: I actually get to Varkhaus from time to time for my work. When I was there about a year ago somebody mentioned this museum.
