Sonora Tonearm/Soundbox Question

Picked myself up a new record player Only bad news is I can't figure out how to play a record on it haha. I cant seem to position the reproducer at the right angle. It is hard to explain, but no matter how I twist it, I cant get it in the right position. I am not sure the model number, as I haven't even started cleaning it up (or even looked at the motor yet).

I've never owned a Sonora phonograph, but assuming it has a similar back flange as a victor reproducer, maybe rotatating the flange or connecting end of the reproducer would work. The tonarm assembly is correct, its just that the reproducer needs to be rotated.

The reproducer is fastened down by a set screw (as seen on the 3rd pic) so doesn't twist itself.

If you remove the 3 screws from the back of the reproducer you should see a pin that locates into a groove. I suspect that your pin is missing or broken, (the pin can be seen protruding from the clamping ring). You should probably replace the gaskets while you have it open. This reproducer has 4 gaskets. The material used for an Exhibition reproducer works fine. Nice machine too.

Thanks for the replies. I got it apart and the bar is fine but my "slot" that the bar fits into is located at the 9 o'clock position instead of the 6 o'clock position like yours. Is it possible for that whole section to be moved?

Edit: I'm almost certain that is my issue because "Sonora Sounbox" is sideways on the face. I may just have to let our miccamonster handle this problem.

Whatever you do, he'll do it right. Nice phonograph--if you clean it up and give it a good polish you might be surprised. Sonoras are very classy machines.

It does look like your housing is not aligned properly to the internal parts. I have not had to deal with that and I have no idea why that would have occurred. This cut away view doesn't show how the castings are aligned.

Yeah. I wonder how the heck this happened too. Kinda strange. Anyway I'm mailing it off to Wyatt to change the gaskets and get it straightened out. Thank you for the helo.

The brass back plate rotated,, which is the first time I have seen this. It was seized. I had to apply Mouse Milk to it, then heat it evenly (thus the glove), and muscled it back into position. Rebuilt, correct gaskets used throughout. NOTE the white rubber pads on the needle bar. DIaphragm is centered, and needlebar geometry adjusted. PLAYS AMAZINGLY. Enjoy!!!!

Just got the reproducer and tonearm back from Wyatt. He wasn't joking when he said it sounded GREAT! Thanks for a job well done, super fast.
