Many years ago I bought a Victor VV50 at auction. I dissmantled it and left it in the loft. Unfortunately the case was damaged at the lid hinge. I am now trying to rebuild it but found a piece of wood with the parts and can’t for the life of me work out where it goes. It is 3” long and 1” square stained black on 2 sides. Can anyone help me with this problem. I have also posted a photo of the label in the lid and it looks like it came to the UK from Canada. It is a front wind ‘early’ machine.
Any comments gratefully received
Thanks Brian

Re: Help wanted for Victor VV50
Your post made me curious enough to open up my VV-50 and take a look! There is no block such as you describe, so it's likely that yours found its way into your case somehow. It looks like a common strengthening piece usually glued on.

Added: OR..maybe this block would go underneath the curved wooden horn section. Look for evidence of a footprint matching the shape of the wood block.

Re: Help wanted for Victor VV50
Thanks Bob for investigating your VV50. I have checked for clues in the case but cannot see any definite clues. Interesting there are differences with the 2 machines. Mine has an aluminium horn and individual motor board support brackets. My mahogany case is poor so I will have to re-finish it,

If you'd show us photos like Bob's, it may be easier to help you...

Took a photo of the bottom section of case. I am currently rebuilding the machine for re-finishing outer parts. can anyone advise what is the finish to the mahogany. Noticed that the label under the turntable is dated 1921.
