VE-XVIII light bulb specs ???

Post by outune »

Hi All-- Last fall I posted about the Circassian Walnut VE XVIII that was discovered just a short distance from my home. I am nearly finished with the restoration and will soon be posting pictures as well as "shout-outs" to a few members who helped me-
BUT- I need help with the proper light-bulb to use- The machine dates from 1915 and uses the Universal Motor-- See pic of the socket-- What watt bulb was used? Was there a 'hood' used on the early machines? Does anyone have a source for the correct bulb?

Thanks in advance for the help-- The machine is looking amazing and is playing well.

I'd start at a specialty lighting store that offers a variety of lamps. You should have a choice of lamps with some being interesting shapes. I'd buy a lamp with a low wattage rating.

If your machine dates from 1915 then it would have a clear bulb as frosted was not an option until the twenties.

Thanks! The help is much appreciated. I ordered a couple of clear bulbs. NOW-- I discovered that the internal parts had been repaired at some point. I've posted in the Yankee trader to see if anyone has the internal socket.

Thanks-
