A Fairly Random Set of my Favorite Dance Songs

Post by donniej »

Mostly from the 1920's, but here's 18 minutes of some of the hottest, happiest and most fun music ever made. I have a particular soft spot for Wingy Manone's performance of "Isle of Capri". This was one of my first exposures to pre-war jazz and as a teenager I absolutely fell in love with it. While not a valuable record, it's still in my "special" storage cabinet. Another favorite is early electrics with Arthur Fields vocals, mostly dime store music, these are a little less polished, fun and even a little odd at times. The last song, "Lucky Day", is the only hot dance song of the era I've yet found with female vocals. It's not *very* hot but what it might lack in BPM's it definitely makes up for in the singers expression of sheer joy and a strong "Charleston" rhythm.

If anyone has recommendations for similar music, especially female vocals, I'd love the input.

Thank you.
