The 4 minute sound from the K reproducer in my red Gem seems to be quieter than I'd expect normally, maybe not as clear, but is it a trait of the K reproducer, having two styli linked together, to be quieter than other reproducers like the H?
I got a photo of the stylus, it seems fine but it's the first non diamond 4 minute reproducer I've owned so I'm not too sure
Reproducer trait or worn stylus?

No offense, Try cleaning it off with a damp cloth first, and then take another pic. That thing is dirty!

Question is: What's it dirty with? Shaved wax? If so, Kirtley's question has been answered.

Been playing black wax? Look like wax shavings but the stylus also look worn out. Look how low it sits.

For my old eyes- That looks like it may be a two minute "C" stylus (door knob shape)- What do others think?

Re: Reproducer trait or worn stylus?
From comparison with my own K, I would say it is the correct size for a 4 minute stylus. If it is not echoing, the stylus is correct: the volume is probably due either to unrestored gaskets, or incorrect adjustment of the compression ring.outune wrote:For my old eyes- That looks like it may be a two minute "C" stylus (door knob shape)- What do others think?

Re: Reproducer trait or worn stylus?
Thanks guys!
The dust was left from some Blue amberols I'm repairing, it wasn't much but things really blow up under high magnification.
I've since managed to solve the problem, I was able to carefully remove the 4 minute stylus and slightly rotate it to a better surface, also left it very slightly further proud of the stylus bar, it's now tracking the groove better and sounding much clearer, not much louder, but like Bill said that should be solved with a re-build
Brad, it is a 4 minute stylus, they're also doorknob shaped, but about half the size of a 2 minute stylus and mounted on the side
