Still working to help our local historical society with talking machines in their collection.
Machine in question is an Edison Standard B, "tall case", banner decal, ICS Language Study version, with repeater key.
All other aspects being equal (condition, function, completeness), does the ISC language study package change the average market value of the machine ?
At this point, I am considering just the machine itself, as none of the ICS goodies are present. (listening tubes, speaking tube / recorder, horn text materials, etc.)
(I think a complete ICS outfit with all the text materials and peripherals would be in a different price category)
The society is hoping to ascertain a ball-park value on their machine, for insurance purposes.
Would appreciate any help on this one...
Thanks !
Frank McMullen

Re: Does ICS Language version affect value of Edison Standar
Without any of the accessories I would estimate it adds around $50 to the value, based on the ones I sold on Ebay and others I've seen sold.

Re: Does ICS Language version affect value of Edison Standar
There's a difference between a cylinder repeater and the phrase repeater found on an ICS Standard. A full record repeater adds hundreds of dollars to the value of a Home or Triumph. But the phrase repeater, which repeats the last few groves, adds a little value and interest to a Standard. $50 was suggested and I agree. Jerry B.

Gentlemen:
Thank you for your comments !
Jerry, thanks also for your comment regarding the distinction between the full repeater mechanism, and the phrase-repeater used by ICS. I never thought about it, but as soon as I read your comment, it made a lot of sense, and I will take care to revise my vocabulary accordingly.
I appreciate the knowledge-base here at TMF, and willingness to share!
Sincerely,
Frank McMullen

There's no need for a revision. The phrase repeater is a nice optionJerry, thanks also for your comment regarding the distinction between the full repeater mechanism, and the phrase-repeater used by ICS.
