Considering the possible non-original tone arm... the chances of finding an original tone is are pretty much nil, so I'd blow this one off if that's a deal breaker, and I suppose it can't hurt to low-ball an offer. Just my thoughts.

I don't really mind that much if the tone arm is not original, since I think it fits the machine nicely as it looks now. However, I will still try to ask the seller for a photo of the soundbox, and see if it possibly can give some further hints. It would have been interesting to find out if the attached tonearm is actually the original one. Maybe the model even was equipped with two different tonearms during it's lifespan, who knows really? And yes, I agree, if the tonearm turns out not to be original, the chance is close to nil to find the real one. But as I said, this is not a deal breaker for me, if I at all get/buy this phonograph.

It's a little different, in a cute way. I don't know that I'd lay down a C-note for it, but if you can get them to come down some and you like it, it wouldn't be a bad purchase.

I have received a photo of the soundbox. It is a Goldring Juwel. I had to google it, since I know very little about sounsboxes, but understand it is a soundbox made by The Scharf Brothers in Berlin, from 1926 onwards, until they moved their business to the UK in 1933. The fact that this soundbox is European, maybe give hints of the tonearm also being European? But of course, I know nothing about the history of Mc Coy & Co, but I would suspect they could easier find tonearms and soundboxes for their machines in the States, instead of importing them from Europe...
Whatever, I understood from reading, that this is a quality soundbox.

I also have one of those Juwell Electro[/] soundboxes. It is a German copy of the HMV no. 4 por victrola 4, but with a much larger diameter mica. It sounds bestial.
The rubber isolator on the back is more complex to overhaul, for it has a thin rubber ring between two metal collars. Similar to the no4 but much thinner. I haven't found a replacement for mine yet...
