I faund this on a online auction site. What is this tonearm extencion in the back?

It is part of the tone arm , bit like a Gilbert bugle tone arm but part built in as the horn top ? is it exponential ?

This tonearm is known as the novaphonic tonearm and was used by various off brand manufacturers.
