SOLD: G&T New Style No 3 Patent Gramophone $1200

Post by gramophone-georg »

I'm selling my Gramophone and Typewriter "New Style No. 3" Berliner Patent gramophone. It is, I believe, the latest version of the original Berliner Patent model- with a twist- it has a larger main spring, no tone arm rest, and a redesigned brake that's integrated with the speed control so that on a full wind with crank removed it can play an 8, 9, or 10" record.

The machine has been restored (correctly) with shellac and correct decals. The motor runs far quieter than an early Victor (in my opinion). The fiber gear is in excellent condition. Speed variation is minute. The grease is recent black Moly- Graph, and not old or solidified despite the aged appearance. The original round needle hole G&T Exhibition long throat reproducer is a great period correct upgrade for this machine as it is vastly superior to the Johnson style original, and has been carefully rebuilt and tweaked. All in all it plays really well for a "Patent" machine. One of the original cabinet fasteners is missing; it's underneath and can't be seen, and does not affect function whatsoever.

The traveling arm, leather elbow, elbow clamp (which is almost always missing and hasn't been available as a repro for a long time), crank, and record hold down are correct reproductions. The brass horn is an older reproduction with some age on it and very well made, unlike modern ones which scream reproduction from a mile away due to incorrect joining of cone and bell. It shines up quite nicely.

This is a very presentable authentic "Patent" machine that's had "work done", hence the price. You won't be disappointed. You also won't be afraid to USE it.

$1200, competent packing and shipping worldwide available at cost.

:!: Tell you what- buy this and my 27 reproduction Berliner records listed here: http://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewto ... =9&t=42636 and I'll go $1550 for all and cover the first $50 in shipping costs! :!:

I am surprised that this hasn’t sold yet. I hope that someone buys it before I have a weak moment.

Here's a video of the machine in action on a 10" electrically recorded 78:
