My newest find...

Post by OldRestorer »

Well,
Here it is.. The Modernola PhonoLamp I have been itching for is in my possession and I love it...
It has cabinet issues but I am very happy with it. She plays ok but needs a cleaning.
The lamp post is missing as well as the shade.

Here is a video too!

A really cool looking find, definitely unique Those veneer issues look fairly easy to fix. Are you going to try to find or recreate the missing parts?

Maybe not "mint", but sure looks to be in darn good shape! I've seen 2 local-ish postings, and they were both in much worse shape! Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only challenge is getting a lamppost reproduced, beside that, the wiring should be relatively easy, and the lampshade could be any that fits and looks good. As far as I know, the modernola was sold with a massive variety of lampshades, probably sources from a lamp company.

VERY cool, Kirk. I have been reading up on Aladdin lamps in the "Parlor" and am wondering how that would look with one of these perched on the lamp spindle... then again, I ain't right. :?

I can see why you have been looking for one for a while that is a nice phonograph. Show us the final restore as it looks good now. I just purchased my first Aladdin lamp today on E bay. It looks like they give off a lot of heat when the are going though. The interesting thing are the lamp shades that are built for them. Look on the E bay site for Aladdin lamp shades and they have some old ones. Tom

Congratulations. They are such gorgeous things, even without the lamp parts! We have nothing quite like that here in the UK. Best of luck with finding or making the superstructure.

(P.S. John, I have always really enjoyed your Richard Brautigan quote!)

Ok here we go...

Thank you for the kind comments all.

Jon,
It will get a new mahogany turned post and home depot has all the wiring needs. There is a gent in Orlando who might be able to help with the shade.

Yes Martin,
It will be quite simple to get it together. All I need is a proper looking shade.

George,
I actually have a few lamps but I will stick to electricity for now, lol..

I sure will Tom...
The final project will not be fast to happen. I have 6 or 7 open projects. I cant handle another open one. :)

John,
That is bloody fantastic... Thank you for sharing..

Thank you Orch,
It will be a specimen for sure when one.
