Victor Reproducer Diaphragm Screw Size?

Post by davidjensen »

Does anyone know is there is a modern size for the screw that goes into the diaphragm hole? I'd like to pick up several for rebuilds and (call me silly) but can't bring myself to pay $5 each. The Victor manual say to "tap, using No. 00-112 standard size" From what I can find this is equivalent to 0.047 with 112 TPI (threads be inch). But I still can't find a supplier. Any ideas?

You could try model railroad supply companies.

That's an odd thread (to me, anyway). 00-90 is a standard size in the model RR hobby, along with 0-80, 1-72, 2-56, 3-48. Good luck finding that 00-112. It's not listed by McMaster-Carr (see https://www.mcmaster.com/screws). Maybe try a jewelers' supply house? That diaphragm screw is practically microscopic!

Pardon me for saying this, but if $5 is too much for something nearly impossible to find, (except on another reproducer), then what price is right? $2.00? Isn't it worth an extra few bucks just to be able to find it at all? I'm not trying to be sarcastic here, just practical.

Honestly... I've likely had at minimum 50 reproducers apart in my time and have yet to find one of those screws that could not be reused.

Having said that, my next one will be THE one.

If I just needed one then yes. I have bought then but people charge $5 plus another $4.50 for shipping so paying $10 for a screw is only practical in a pinch.

Is there a way to get ahold of Ron by email instead of phone?

No. Ron is old school. You do need to call him before Thanksgiving, as he closes every year between then and approximately the end of January. Phone 518-371-8549. Hours: 7PM to 10PM eastern time.
