I own one of these and they are worth getting! But they are big and heavy! Gotta change the grille cloth though!

Re: Columbia Viva Tonal 800
I went and looked at this two weeks ago. It's in good shape but this beast was just too massive for me - I didn't realize just how big and heavy this thing is! The price is right but this should go to a collector with lots of room!
The trip was not for naught: He also had a Victor 8-35 for sale that I ended up buying instead. Absolutely love it!
The seller (Earl) is a wonderful guy and my wife and I ended up talking for nearly two hours about records, phonographs, music history, and all manner of storytelling.

Great deal!! Isn't the 8-35 bigger and heavier?

The seller is a member here and he's a terrific guy! Agreed on the massive size and weight of an 800 / 810, two of us BARELY were able to get an 810 that I bought almost two years ago now up three small steps into my house during a snow storm. What a beast, but also a really fun machine now that it's mostly finished. 8-35s are super as well, I sold mine to another collector since I own an 8-8 and a 10-35 and space is becoming an issue

The 8-35 is a little wider but the 800 is much taller and deeper - making it quite a bit bulkier to move.Phono-Phan wrote:Isn't the 8-35 bigger and heavier?
