Epigramophone recently alerted me to the special Christmas edition of the BBC Music Magazine which contains many excellent articles. One such tells of an opera venue in a two thousand year old Roman quarry in Austria.
Definitely on my bucket list...……..

Re: Spectacular opera venue.
Wow, this brings back memories. Wife and I visited Eisenstadt back in the winter of 1994-95. The whole town was closed down, but we managed to persuade the local tourist bureau folks to let us in to see the concert hall in the Esterhazy Palace (conveniently, that's where the tourist office was located! In the Palace, that is). We tried to see Haydn's tomb , but the Church was undergoing renovation and was closed at the time. It was a very cold day of a very cold winter, but the sun was out and the Esterhazy Palace gleamed in the brilliant light.
