I'm new to this, so this forum has been a tremendous source of information. Thanks!
The grill on my S19 in Walnut wood was smashed and the original grill cloth is gone, except for a few fibers. I think that the original would have been olive green. Can people confirm or correct me on this?
A restorer who does Edison's with the horn on top sold me a piece in burgundy color, which I thought would be nice, but I would rather have it look original.
Thanks for your help.

Re: what color grill cloth for S19 Edison Phonograph?
I found a subdued gold/brownish toned material at a fabric shop which I used on several Edsions. Some however did have a dull green toned cloth. My Jacobean upright has that color in it. Just as a tip which for some reason it took me some time to figure out is this. To get the fabric nice and tight so that it will stay that way I now use a piece of plywood and stretch the fabric to it. I staple it from the center of each side pulling it tight all around.. You have the piece bigger than the grill it self. Then I put the glue on the rear of the wood grill and lay it on the tightly stretched material. When its dry you then cut it loose from the plywood and trim it around the grill also. Those I did that way never get the saggy stretched look after a while when I just tried to hold it in place , just not enough even pressure on it.

What glue do you use that won't show through the material. Or, do you just glue around the outer edge?

I glue it around the out side and a few places toward the center to help keep it from being pushed in too easily. I use plain old elmers glue. You put the glue on the wood part and then lay it on the fabric that is stapled dow around the edges. I forgot to mention to weigh it down with a few heavy books while its drying. Also important I forgot was to put a sheet of wax paper under the fabric so that any glue that might seep though the back wouldn't be able to stick the fabric to the ply wood. Should have thought of that sooner.
