Edison lateral/Diamond Disc cross reference?

Post by 52089 »

Is there a list anywhere of recordings that were issued both on Edison's lateral, needle cut discs and Diamond Discs? I can't imagine there were many, but if this list exists, I'd love to know about it.

Thanks in advance.

While the Truesound DD spreadsheet doesn't list them as cross-references, per se, it does list the title twice, once for the lateral and again for the DD. So, if you search the spreadsheet for a song title, you can find both catalog numbers. It's a starting point, anyway. I have my copy sorted by catalog number, so the needle cut numbers come first (column F).

It's not a list, but Raymond Wile has a book, The Edison Discography (1926-29) 2008, Mainspring Press. It lists the recording sessions in chronological order by Matrix number, and lists the forms that the recording was issued. Some were issued as DDs, Needle cuts, and BA's. for example:

19325 Cpl. 25-Sep-1929

Eva Taylor (Queen of the Moaners)
Have you ever felt that way?
DD: 52646-L
N1049

The DAHR has them chronologically too.
