Electrically recorded 78s on an external horned phonograph

Initially, I had problems playing electrically recorded records with my Exhibition reproducer, but after I made three changes to my victor II, the problems went away and all records sound great:

1) rebuild and carefully optimize the Exhibition reproducer

2) select a good needle that does not damage the records and delivers great SQ:

Walt's soft-tone needles are the best I have found. Never any black fluff on the needle. Nice rounded tips, but some are bent, so you must examine them with an eye-loupe before using.

3) I modified my player to relocate the tone arm further back so that the tracking is improved significantly. Maximum 12-13 degrees at the extremes of the track. The original location resulted in 19 degrees on the outer track and 9 degrees on the inner track.

I also have a Victor 4 reproducer and it has no problems with newer records, but I'm still optimizing it.
