New Edison Home B

Post by kirtley2012 »

If there's anything better than a big box turning up at your door, it's two big boxes!
Purchases like this are why I shouldn't be allowed on eBay, it's an edison home B, fitted with a 10 panel Cygnet horn, 2+4 minute gearing, horizontal carriage and diamond B reproducer.

It had it's problems, some feeble belt was causing a lot of slippage, that needed replacing, it needed some oiling but quite a lot of adjusting to get it going, eventually it got there, the crane was missing so I borrowed the one from my Fireside, currently on the look out for another crane, might need the odd bit of tweaking still but so far it seems good, the Diamond B sounds great, the diamond still seems good, I'll have to get another reproducer for 2 minute, maybe a model O in time.
The condition is overall very good, can't wait to really start playing with it!

Nice model B.. Maybe you can get a duplex and play both Cygnet horns at once   Original cygnet cranes are getting harder to come by. There are some repos on E Bay though that are original. I made an error and corrected it to model b ..Tom

Isn't that a B, as in the headline, with the 2-4 gear kit? It has an end gate; those had disappeared by the time the D came along.

If I were a betting man, I'd say Captain Typo strikes again!

Very handsome phonograph and Cygnet horn set up. I am envious, I do not have one in my collection. Thanks for sharing! Steve L.

Very nice! I have the same setup, except still with the standard carriage and Model K reproducer. I absolutely love using it for all my 2 and 4 minute cylinder record playing.

Congratulations,
Fran

P.S.: I see a 5-string banjo in your video, I assume you must play. I played one for a couple decades myself (though not very well ;) )

Congratulations Sound great! The bedplate and cabinet finish is awesome! I do most of my cylinder reviewing with a Home model B, though mine is strictly 2 min only. I suspect since some B machines were made up until 1908, that some were sold for four-minute operation. If you want to play 2 minutes, you can get an adapter ring that fits in the carrier eye. I really think with the combination cygnet and model B this plays BA cylinders nicely, the one you chose sounds loud, rich and full, ad one of my favorite cylinders. I restored a model B Home for my daughter, two minutes only but if her mother allowed her to keep it or not, I don't know.
