Too many Credenzas?

Post by BillH_NJ »

I got two more Credenzas this week in PA to add to the one I have had for years. I had my original one (on the left in the photo), #19446, refinished a few years ago since the original finish was in really terrible shape. The one on the right, #24129, needs replacement knobs and a new grille cloth. The cloth in it was so hideous that I had to take it out as soon as I got it home. The third, from someone in Philly, is a Canadian machine, #C-5766, but is missing its feet.

All three are now in the dining room, along with a XIV, a 210, a Victor D, and a Columbia BI. I’m going to have to find room to move something out!

And there’s an 8-12 in the living room (tucked in behind a harpsichord) and a Sonora Philharmonic in the entry hall, so I have a lot of large machines on the first floor.

It looks like you are missing an early two door, an electric and a leather covered. They also came in Walnut and Mahogany, so my thought is that you don’t have enough, but you have a good start.

You are in a position to try an experiment I have wanted to for a long time: get a couple of exciters to connect your Credenza horns to a modern stereo amp's output and then set up a pair of Credenzas as stereo speakers.

Come to think of it, if you buy one more, you could set up four and have a quad system.

A fifth, and you could add a subwoofer and do a 5.1 home theater system. The TV could sit on top of the center channel Credenza.

The possibilities are endless!

Ahem.....

OK, that got silly quickly, but I really have wondered how a pair of Credenzas would do as stereo speakers. Just call me a bit eccentric.

If you include the next model year, the 8-30 family also has the VE 8-30S acoustic Orthophonic with the valve and horn driver for a radio and the VE 8-60 with an electric pickup and amplifier.

If you need a set of Credenza feet send me an email or a PM.
