Missing the tone arm/reproducer (which are probably unobtainium), but I would assume this is a rare item.

It's absolutely a rare item. The Hawthorne & Sheble version of the Yankee Prince! That tone arm/sound box will be tough to find, but stranger things have happened.
Here's an old thread on this machine:

Yes, I had looked at the thread about the time the machine was listed. I know it is a rare bird, and if I weren't pecuniarily challenged at the moment, I would toss my hat in the bidding ring. I will be anxious to see what price this ends up bringing. The bidding is tantalizingly low right now, but we know that can change in a second!
Best,

As George mentioned, the arm and reproducer will be extremely hard to find. Especially a reproducer that is not missing its needle bar and that has a needle bar retaining spring that's not broken.

Isn't the tonearm/reproducer the same or similar to a late model backmount Zonophone? If so, I'd part out the Zono and restore the Yankee Prince... Also, is this a coin-op machine, since it appears to have a coin slot on the side?

After looking at the old thread, now I see why the tonearm and reproducer will be a difficult find...phonogfp wrote:It's absolutely a rare item. The Hawthorne & Sheble version of the Yankee Prince! That tone arm/sound box will be tough to find, but stranger things have happened.

Unfortunately, no. It's a completely different tone arm & sound box. What appears to be a coin slot is the on/off lever.Curt A wrote:Isn't the tonearm/reproducer the same or similar to a late model backmount Zonophone? Yes indeedy! It amuses me when I see folks post active eBay/online auctions, commenting that it's a "great price" or "a good deal." There's no "deal" or "price" until the auction's over!CharliePhono wrote: The bidding is tantalizingly low right now, but we know that can change in a second!

This would be especially tantalizing for someone who happens to have the right Yankee Prince arm/sound box in their boxes of parts. For anyone else, it's liable to be an exercise in patience. Still...
