Edison Concert Reproducer Identification

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to ID the reproducer on my Edison Concert. Is this an automatic? See picture below. Thank you for any help with this reproducer!

It looks like an Automatic with an aftermarket tube-plate. Hawthorne & Sheble sold these, and similar designs were offered by Mobley, Fletcher, Blackman, and others when the Automatic was modified by them.

Can you show a picture of the underside of the reproducer?

Can’t seem to pop it out of the carriage. I don’t want to damage it. I was able to snap two pics of the bottom, but any other identifying information seems to be covered up. Do these pictures help at all?

It certainly looks like an Automatic from the bottom!

I don't know why it won't remove from the carriage - - there's no pot metal involved. You're wise to be gentle with it though.

So as not to overlook the obvious, make sure the retaining clips aren't getting in the way. Both the upper and lower clips need to be moved completely off the top of the reproducer or you won't be able to remove it from the carriage.

A small amount of a real penetrating lubricant like Kroil, PB Blaster, or Monkey’s Milk should free-up the reproducer. Also, try gently rotating the reproducer in the eye using the handle.

As Grant said, make sure the retaining clips are moved out of the way... In your picture, the bottom one is moved, but the top one is still engaged...

The carriage look to be an older reproduction possibly of brass. May not be made to precise spec. The reproducer is probably jammed into this carriage and will require careful removal

Might find a bit more information in the book by Copeland and Dethlefson published in 2004.
On pages 100-102 there is a listing of Concert machines by serial number and motor number. Not a complete listing for sure but if your machine is in that list it does provide some comments regarding the type and serial number of Automatic reproducer and maybe some additional comments re that reproducer.
