It would be fun to start a topic like that with people posting their "oops" record labels but then maybe that's already been done. Anyway, I was going through some cylinders yesterday that I'd not seen in many years and found this one that I'd not put aside likely because I'd never removed the lid until yesterday.
It's not an unusual Edison Amberol cylinder to find by any means. But when I removed the lid I noticed the stamped rim information.
"JON. & SPEN." as artists. Now, to me, it's kind of fun to imagine what might have happened here. The person assigned to apply the catalog number, title and artist information on the rim apparently left too much space after the Thomas A Edison trademark and "PAT'D 21" information.
What might that person have thought back then... Here's my spin on it: "Ahhhhh crap...now I don't have enough room for "JONES & SPENCER"...that's JUST great...what do I do NOW? Hmmmm.......there we go...how about "JON. & SPEN.". Yeah, that'll do it. Good enough. Who will notice? Their names are on the lid anyway so who cares?"
I also have some Albany Indestructible cylinders with "C & H" on the rim for Collins and Harlan. But in those instances I recall that the song title was very long. But on this one there was plenty of room for the song title.
