Victor Serious about the Term "Victrola"

Post by Talkophone »

An Ad I decided to put in a frame. I'm sure some of the collectors have seen this ad before? Enjoy the ad.

I love it! I would choose that ad for a frame too if I had it. I love the last two large print words, "Victor Supremacy"!

Victor protected the copyright on the word "Victrola" up until the end. I've seen an RCA color television with the word Victrola in the label text on the back- most probably put there to preserve the copyright.

The word “Victrola” obviously was used as loosely back in the day as it is now-a-days. Imagine how many folks walked into their local music store and asked for a Victrola only to be shown an off brand look-a-like.

Have a look at eBay and CL - "Victrola" means anything with a crank and a turntable!

Maybe we should copy the ad in the picture and send it to everyone who posts an ad for a Victrola Edison Grafonola! Today's Seattle CL: "Thomas Edison Victrola - $499".

I bought a Victor L-Door 16 and the ad was in the phonograph. I personally haven't seen the ad before.
