Just in case the listing disappears, I am copying the pics below (and rotating them to the correct orientation... always gives me a sore neck to look at them sideways!) :rose:

Wonderful Period Grafonola, but OH! THE FINISH!

It appears to have been stripped and bleached, in an attempt to turn it from Tudor
to Texas Victorian.

Still well worth the effort to put it back together, if not quite the price in the current market..

Very nice, but it should have been done in mahogany in my opinion.

Um.... The original cabinets that inspired this talking machine would have dated to the Sixteenth Century, about two hundred years before
mahogany (which was a "New World" tropical wood) became available to European cabinet makers. In the Italy of that time walnut was the
most commonly used wood for cabinet work, whilst in Britain oak held sway. Note that the finish on this piece should be VERY dark, almost black.

Is this really
Antique, custom made for Byron Mauzy, San Fransisco's music guru. Hand carved.
?

Looks like one of the art cabinets offered by Columbia for ~ $500? It's surely rare but whether it's custom made for Byron Mauzy would need some checking.

It was a Columbia Charles II model. Original finish was dark oak with polychrome highlights on the "carvings". Gold plated hardware, auto on when you lowered the horn door.

I was hoping there'd be a picture of the original finish in this thread, but sadly not

Here is what the original finish looked like. It was dark, with polychrome decorations. I believe that it was also offered without the polychrome.
