Nice machine. I'm curious though where does the sound come out? Ie where is the horn on these machines?
I am interested in all forms of audio media including: gramophones, phonographs, wire recorders, the tefifon, reel to reel tapes, radiograms and radios.

The backside has luvers and the sound comes out of the backside. I will try to get a picture tonight.

A handsome machine. Eldridge Johnson's dictum that "A phonograph should look like a phonograph" must have brought Columbia a good deal of business.

I agree with Curt...it's probably a stack of $100 bills that's keeping the drawer from fully closing...happens all the time with these old phonographs.

Here is a picture of the louvers on the back. The middle 2 show a repair at sometime in the past. Probably from being laid down on its back I am guessing.

Dan I have one identical to yours and I brought it home in the back of a SUV on its back two years ago. My drawer would not close because a needle had gotten in to the track. Closely inspect the tracks that the drawer slides in and out of. Even though we had bagged the needles there must have been some loose one floating around. Look for the needle in the haystack. Just one idea otherwise something hidden could have shifted check the volume doors too. I have two doors that close over the horn. That is a nice phonograph and they play very well with a good volume. Tom

Mine does not have doors. Columbia got sued by Victor for their patent on the doors ans switched to louvers. Yours would be a bit older than mine.
