Found: I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen, For Edison Museum

Post by Dave D »

I am the site manager of the Thomas Edison Depot Museum in Port Huron, MI. It's housed in the 1854 Grand Trunk Train Depot where Edison worked as a boy.

We have a C 250 which we demonstrate daily. Our copy of Edison's favorite record is in pretty bad shape. Can someone sell me a nice copy of it?

Thanks!

Which one are you looking for? There are at least two.

No. 80160 recorded in 1914 with vocals by Walter Van Brunt
no. 51666 recorded in 1925 by Kaplan's Melodists with vocals by Vernon Dalhart.

Edison would have probably been more familiar with the Van Brunt version but the later recording is much nicer imho.

Neither should be terribly expensive or hard to find.

I agree that it should not be hard to find, but with no phono shows in the near future, I am reaching out to the collecting community here. I would rather have the Van Brunt version, but will take what I can get. Edison probably preferred it, but since he had to approve each record, he must have like Dalhart's version too.
