Edison Studio solo band only recording horn.
So, Peter Dilg, when I purchased this horn in the early 2000's at the Wayne N.J. show said, "I can't put my finger on it, but I know this horn." I think I know why he said that. While looking at a photo of a brass band recording about 1910 at Edison's 79, 5th ave recording studio, I took a closer look at the picture, and I think it is the horn I have. Tell me what you think. This horn is also in the new Bolden movie that came out last summer, as I loned them myself, and my recording equipment and went to the film studio 3 times.

- Closeup of the recording horn, you can faintly see the seam of the extension piece, as the horn I own does.

Of course that photo is a posed for the photographer image. In actual recording they would be arranged differently and facing the horn.

It is still wonderful that he has what looks like the original Edison horn from the studio. That is truly impressive.

Re: Edison Studio solo band only recording horn.
When I do record brass band instruments with the original studio recording head, and this horn the records have a similar sound to the Edison military band records. I am sure this photo was staged, as most photos took longer to expose than modern photos, but the horn would be in the studio, they would not just get a random horn from somewhere else. Now most two minute cylinders that contained a vocal and band usually used a double 27" hexagon horn, quite a bit, This actually was two horns that merged into a single soldered horn connection tube to the recording lathe.
