In the right hands, those are very repairable, but most likely no repair will preserve the original finish. At least not in the repaired areas. The missing wood took the original finish along with it. Be patient.

I will think about this. Obviously the machine works fine without the speakers slats, its just some times really loud :?

The re-finished lid does bother me, so maybe I will refinish the whole cabinet so it looks right

I would suggest refinishing the the lid first, trying to match the original finish of the rest of the cabinet. Maybe that's all you'll need to do. Again: patience ;)

I think you are doing a great job here, and as your good advicers and helpers already have said, it is all about patience...in addition to all good advices you receive along the way.
This reminds me also much about my last efforts in refinishing and restauring cabinets and table gramophones/phonographs, that I just started a year ago actually, but that is now keeping me wonderfully busy and happy.
A great looking machine, and always nice to see someone cherish and preserve a wonderful Colombia:)
Good luck !
