Just came here after watching it. I was pleasantly surprised when he gave a shout out to the forum. I've been a fan of his content for a long time, I'm guessing the video will give a little influx in activity.

I, too, was pleased to see this. I've also been a fan of Techmoan for a while, but was impressed how he covered the major points of the 102 and related items with no misinformation, including vinyl versus shellac 78s on an acoustic gramophone. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, as this is a Techmoan hallmark. The shout-out to the TMF was a pleasure.

Hi. I'm new here so hello all.

Its a great video but I have asked him via YouTube to let me know where he sourced the info regarding the serial number.

The info on the serial number can't be accurate. He states that the first two numbers denotes where the 102 was made. 13 = Hayes. I don't believe they were made anywhere else? Also if 8 signifies Mechanical Gramophone then all 102's would have this number on their serial number. The last 3 digits denoting number produced is also questionable. He states number produced since production resumed after the war. This is a 1946 machine (B/10). The B/9 was therefore from 1945. 20,000 of these where produced post war for the Ministry of Supply. This could be number 204 of the B/10 or is it number 8204? Would they have produced 138204 machines - seems like a high number to me.
I would love to hear what over members know or think as this is the first time anyone has attempted to break up and explain the serial number on the 102 that i'm aware of.

Very nicely done and amusing. I'm also very positively impressed by how accurate the information he delivered was. The close-up shootings were cool, something you don't see every day.

Happy to see this forum mentioned, but most of all happy to see Graham Barber being mentioned. Despite having spent only few years in this hobby, Graham knew a lot of things about gramophones and he was number one when it came to pass this information to others. He had a gift for dissemination and his website, although very accessible and agile, is a mine of useful information.

Quite frankly, it's his fault I'm here.

I was enjoying a few glasses of vino, having been assigned the task of sourcing a decent bluetooth speaker for the garden and the couple of canal boat trips we do each year. Taking a break from the task at hand I noticed he had a new video and by the time it had finished, so was the bottle.

Off I stumble to ebay and promptly and confidently put down an offer on a HMV 99 with a HMV 5a soundbox (I am of course a shrewd expert on the matter by now).

Thankfully, SWIMBO saw the funny side of it.

My boating buddies were entirely unsurprised with this new addition to the kit bag.

Oh well, it's all in the name of fun.
