Does anyone know this gramophone?

Post by Enrico »

I have this gramophone in my collection. My father said it was American, but probably because of its reproducer. The bracket and the elbow also do not seem to be European. I mounted a repainted Victor horn on it.

Not American, although the taper arm looks Victor. It's definitely European with what looks like mostly HMV parts. What's the brand on the spring motor, if any?

I know I've seen that logo before- I am trying to place it.

I really dig European machines! :D

Hi George!
It is very strange to see that type of arm and elbow on a European continental gramophone. I think of German gramophones. As for decoration, I found something similar only on a Parlophone gramophone.

If I were forced to take a guess I'd say Lindstrom, but I'm no expert.

but if you look at the pin of the charge, it is not a typical German attack ... It can remember an Odeon, but it is not an Odeon.

Your back bracket is slightly different where the arm and horn elbow meet but almost the same arm and same motor. The horn and elbow is definitely HMV design to my eye. Did they sometimes supply parts to Lindstrom and Parlophon?

An early Paillard is a distinct possibility here too. Wish there were better pictures of this:

I have the gramophone which is for sale at Guido's. It's a Polyphon 88. But it's different than the gramophone we are talking about...

That is very interesting! Is it a Lindstrom?
However, my gramophone's elbow and bracket are similar to those of Victor, but differ in some features. The elbow fits in front and not behind, as is the case with Victor elbows. Also, there is no one elbow fixing screw. What is almost identical is the attack for the horn on the elbow.
