eBay madness?

Post by epigramophone »

Seven bidders fought over a box of four new old stock HMV No.5b soundbox diaphragms, with the winner paying an astronomic £122 plus postage!
I have just been out to my workshop to check my stock of diaphragms. I also have four new old stock HMV 5b's, so are they really that rare?

I'm not very surprised by this. Finding punctured aluminium diaphragms in reproducers is not uncommon, and unless you're finding completely un-repairable reproducers to pull them from, there is no other source for orinal diaphragms.

They are "worth" what someone, who obviously needed them, was willing to pay... If you wanted one, where would you go to find one, other than your shop? I don't need one, so I don't think they are that valuable...

The market is doing some odd things right now... at least in the areas I tend to look/buy. I guess things are on the upward bound.... Strange if you ask me

People have been locked away in their homes, all the shows & sales are being cancelled, where else are you going to get your phonograph "fix". Factor in also, that with shows being cancelled, you've got the extra bucks to spend that would have gone for travel expenses & lodging. Between my 2 main hobbies of phonos & antique cars, I'll probably save well over $2500 in travel and event registrations. What's left??? eBay! Sorry to admit, I've probably spent the amount that I "saved" buying stuff on eBay that I would not have normally. Madness? Ya, probably... :?
