L-Door ID Tag, Odd to me

Post by Django »

I dragged a Victrola tab brake L-Door XVI parts machine home yesterday. The ID tag seems odd. There is an “M” following the D. Is this typical? Does anyone know what the M means?

Thanks

Possibly Mahogany??? “D” is the proper letter for that serial number range.

Nice job, but the DM is still a mystery.

I should have stated my point clearly, and didn’t. Could the DM have anything to do with the “Second Hand License”? Does yours have the same license applied in the rear compartment?

Thanks for clarifying. Mine does not have anything indicating second hand.

Per the survival database, the "DM" suffix on XVI machines began appearing at s/n 55500 and ran through s/n 60000, although "D" and "DM" versions both exist within that range. I have not yet been able to determine any unique physical differences between the two versions. Many have speculated on possible reasons for these different nomenclatures, but nothing has been proven thus far. I do not believe that the original production data offers any clues as to the reason for the added "M" on some machines.
